Once made, the #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette is
self-booting with its own proprietary boot-loader and micro operating system.
Please be sure to read and follow these instructions on how to successfully create a
#1-TuffTEST Program Diskette.
Step 1.
VERY IMPORTANT: Before installing #1-TuffTEST:
- ALL other open applications and programs running in the
background MUST be closed. This especially applies to anti-virus and
system protection programs.
- ALL BIOS-based anti-virus and
system protection functions MUST be disabled.
- If you are using Windows NT, 2000 or XP you
must first log on with "Full Administrator Privileges".
NOTE: Alternatively to the above, you
can boot your PC into SAFE MODE (consult your Windows Help Files),
and then install #1-TuffTEST.
Step 2.
Check the file name and size of the #1-TuffTEST
Installation Wizard. The file name should be "ttsetup.exe" and the file size
should be 318,497 bytes. If for any reason you need to download
ttsetup.exe again, you can download it at no charge (onto your hard drive or floppy disk)
from:
Step 3.
The #1-TuffTEST Installation Wizard, ttsetup.exe, is
a self-extracting Windows program that you "run" under Windows 3.1x, Windows 95,
Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Step 4.
The Installation Wizard
creates a Program Group with 2 icons. One icon, the Make #1-TuffTEST Diskette Wizard, is
for making a self-booting #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette whenever needed. And the other
icon, #1-TuffTEST USE INSTRUCTIONS, is for viewing and/or printing the #1-TuffTEST Use
Instructions file (ttreadme.wri). The default directory is C:\Program Files\TuffTEST.
Step 5.
During operation the Make
#1-TuffTEST Diskette Wizard will automatically open a DOS Window, create the #1-TuffTEST
Program Diskette and then automatically return to the Make #1-TuffTEST Diskette Wizard.
Therefore, it is very important that your operating system is configured to allow running
a DOS program under Windows.
NOTE 1 - This is the default Windows setup,
however, some Windows NT, 2000 and XP setups do not allow writing to a diskette and/or shelling to DOS. If
this is the case with your operating system, you must log in with
full "Administrator Privileges" prior to running the
#1-TuffTEST Installation Wizard. If this is not possible, you can put the
#1-TuffTEST Installation Wizard, ttsetup.exe, on a floppy diskette and make your
#1-TuffTEST Program Diskette on another PC running Windows.
NOTE 2 - The Make #1-TuffTEST Diskette Wizard
will not run properly on systems that are using "alternative" autoexec.bat
and/or config.sys files. These files may have been modified (by the user or a program) to
run something like 4-DOS over MS-DOS or to accommodate running DOS games/programs that
can't run under Windows in a DOS window. In the latter case, Windows will not let you run
a DOS program under Windows. It will put up a dialog box asking you if you want to
re-start your system in DOS mode. If you answer yes, all Windows programs, including our
Windows-based installer, are shut down and the system is re-started in DOS mode. You can
then run your DOS game/program under DOS. In order to run the Make
#1-TuffTEST
Diskette Wizard you will need to use the standard autoexec.bat and config.sys files or use
another PC.
Note 3 - Some DOS game
installation programs will create a "command.pif" file
that will re-start your PC in DOS mode whenever you try to run a DOS
program. In order to run the Make #1-TuffTEST Diskette Wizard you will
need to temporarily re-name this file.
Step 6.
The #1-TuffTEST format and file
structure is not compatible with commercial operating systems (DOS, Windows, UNIX, etc.).
Thus #1-TuffTEST's files cannot be "seen" by these operating systems. So do not
attempt to do native operating system commands such as "DIR" on them as you MAY
DAMAGE the newly created #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette.
Step 7.
The ONLY way to determine if you have
successfully created your #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette is to try to use it as described in
step 8.
Step 8.
To test your newly created
#1-TuffTEST Program Diskette, close all open programs, shut down Windows, turn off the PC,
insert the #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette into Drive A, and then turn on the PC. #1-TuffTEST
will boot the PC and display its Main Menu in 30-90 seconds.
Step 9.
Make sure the "Boot
Order" for the target PC is set at "A, C" in CMOS Setup. If the
configuration is "C, A" the PC will ignore the #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette in
Drive A and boot from Drive C.
Step 10.
Click on the "Make
#1-TuffTEST Diskette" Icon to make a #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette whenever needed. If
the image write fails make sure you are using a "good" blank DOS formatted
diskette that is "not" write-protected.
Step 11.
Finally, if all efforts fail, try creating your Program Diskette in
SAFE MODE. If that also fails,
you can put the #1-TuffTEST Installation Wizard, ttsetup.exe, on a floppy diskette and
make your #1-TuffTEST Program Diskette on another PC running Windows.
