Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
for
BCM Diagnostics Pro™

Q: I downloaded an evaluation copy of BCM Diagnostics for Win95 v1.01.02. How can I order BCM Diagnostics Pro v.2.30?
A:
BCM Diagnostics Pro v.2.30 can be ordered by clicking here.

Q: What are the benefits using BCM Diagnostics Pro?
A: BCM Diagnostics Pro has been used by BCM Advanced Research hardware engineers to verify many of their state-of-art motherboard designs and also used by BCM factory technicians to produce millions of motherboards and systems for many of the top tier PC companies. BCM Diagnostics Pro is designed, maintained and constantly improved by BCM diagnostic engineers to keep up with the fast-paced PC technologies. It has been a great tool for BCM and we think it will be a great benefit to PC users as well. Whenever you have doubts with your system's reliability or whenever you buy a new PC, you can use BCM Diagnostics Pro, both Windows and DOS versions, to perform a physical exam on your PC and understand its stability and capability. BCM Diagnostics Pro diagnoses almost every PC component and singles out faulty areas. A successful overnight burn-in with the Stress Test would give you great confidence in your PC. A periodic diagnosis performed on your PC would give you better preparation for adverse situations, such as system crash or data loss. If you are a system integrator, BCM Diagnostics Pro would be a great quality control tool for you.

Q: Is version v.2.30 compatible with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP?
A: Yes it is. However, before installing BCM Diagnostics Pro you must first log on with "Full Administrator Privileges". And, as with any new software application installation, before installing it you must close ALL other open applications and programs running in the background. This especially applies to anti-virus and system protection programs.

Q: Is BCM Diagnostics Pro year 2000 compliant?
A: Yes, BCM Diagnostics Pro is designed to be used after year 2000 provided that it is used on year 2000 compliant systems. The software has been designed to ensure year 2000 compatibility, including century recognition and multiple century date data manipulation. The performance of this software is not sensitive to date/time and will not abnormally end or provide invalid or incorrect results as a result of date data.

Q: Why does the System Hardware Health Monitor fail to find the driver or device after it is installed ?
A:
The System Hardware Health Monitor will not work if your system board does not have a LM78 or compatible chip.

Q: Why does the System Hardware Health Monitor report zero reading on certain inputs and cpu fan speed?
A:
The System Hardware Health Monitor was designed to be compatible with Intel LanDesk Manager for motherboards containing a LM78 or WB3781 sensor chip. The default settings are based on Intel Pentium II, 66MHz bus motherboards, which may not be applicable to your motherboard. If you get zero readings on certain voltage inputs, you may want to change the default settings to disable certain readings to match with your motherboard design. Refer to your motherboard specification for hardware monitoring capability and Intel LDCM compatibility.

Q: Why does the system hang when running the Stress Test in concurrent mode?
A:
The Stress Test, when run in concurrent mode, is a very stringent, timing-sensitive test. First, make sure not to touch the mouse or keyboard during testing. Otherwise the Window App. Test may be hung up waiting keyboard input. Second, the Modem test might need to be disabled when running in concurrent mode. Third, be sure that the hard drive has at least 256 MB of free space reserved for the swap file. Also, from our experience, some VGA graphics and MPEG drivers may fail under this heavy multitasking environment but function properly in normal daily operation condition.

Q: Why can't the CD-ROM test detect the exact speed of 16X or higher CD-ROM drives?
A:
The CD-ROM test randomly selects files on a CD-ROM for testing. When these test files are located on outer tracks 16X or higher CD-ROM drives will achieve their rated speed. If the test files happen to be located on inner tracks, the test result might be slower than what the vendor specified.
